My BFA in drama from NYU Tisch gives me range and stamina, while my 12 years of professional experience allows me context and inspiration. Touring nationally as a singer and working in theatre in NYC has exposed me to the thrill of connection with an audience through written word or lyric. I know intimately the power a voice has on the way words land. I lean into the colorful personalities I’ve met as I’ve toured the country to voice vibrant characters via my studied, strong instrument - ideally with a touch of wry wit. It is both delicious and horrifying to be human, so voicing stories of personal discovery and self actualization activates me. In Literary Fiction I find catharsis in characters unearthing their worth through relationships to other people. In Romance I champion characters to fight to love each other better - not to win. Place these stories in a beautifully built Fantasy world and I'm all the more enchanted.
Along with self produced titles in collaboration with independent authors, I've been lucky enough to work with Hachette, John Marshal Media, Brilliance, Outloud Audio, and Podium over the past 1.5 years. There are just over 80 titles between my romance pseudonym, Blair Thatcher, and my name available now. Narration has been the most natural, delicious, and rewarding addition to my life. It wasn’t craving the spotlight that brought this textbook introvert to performing; it was the power of words that make you feel known. Singing was natural to me and brought me to a love of lyrics. Then lyrics brought me to music theatre, which brought me to acting. I recently left the theatre world because I find the focus on image and beauty standards to be so directly in opposition to the spirit of telling stories about actual, real humans. I cannot begin to express how much of a gift narration is because I am not limited by my body in this medium and characters and their stories are not limited to the confines of a 2-act production.
